Tapestry Women's Choir to Cease Operations

After twelve concert seasons of entertaining audiences on the Palouse, Tapestry Women's Choir is closing down. According to Judy Croskey, Tapestry Board Chair, members of the Board spent the last two summers searching for a permanent musical director.

Tapestry began under the direction of Dale Forrey in 1999 with nine vocalists and eventually grew to number 22 singers. Many of the members had solo quality voices and were often featured in the programming. The choir was known for its outstanding blend of voices and its rich repertoire. Forrey's tenure as director ended after Tapestry completed its eleventh concert season in May 2010 when he accepted a new position and moved to Olympia, WA.

At the end of summer 2010, Choir member Amanda Bullock volunteered to lead the choir for the 2010-2011 season. Although both Amanda and the Board expected her to lead Tapestry for several years, circumstances changed unexpectedly when Amanda's husband took a new job and the family moved. Once again the Tapestry Board spent the summer of 2011 searching for a director but failed to find one. Rather than have the choir experience a decline in the quality that loyal Tapestry audiences had come to expect, the Board decided to close the choir down.

The Tapestry Board and singers would like to thank area audiences for their loyal support over the years. Participating in the choir has been a labor of love for the singers and they will miss the opportunity to sing for audiences in Colfax, Pullman, Moscow, and other Palouse communities.

Tapestry CDs are still available and can be purchased by contacting Judy Croskey.
